Tonight I'll be celebrating the festival of First Light. In this land of Aotearoa, the inanga (whitebait) are wriggling their way up the rivers.
We too will be listening to the new life that is young and wriggling inside after the hibernation of winter.
The yellow flowers will be set in the south, where in Celtic tradition we find the element of earth (reversed for our southern hemisphere). In the west lies water, signified tonight with this blue vessel and white sea shells. To the Celts, First Light, which is half-way between winter solstice and spring equinox, is the festival of the fire goddess Brigid, who is associated with creativity, poetry and healing.
Tonight the candles will be lit in honour of Brigid. And as an extra element, here is the Chinese goddess of compassion, Kuan Yin, for we will be invoking healing and compassion for absent friends, and all those in trouble at this time.
Kuan Yin is said to be 'She Who Sees and Hears the Cries of the World'.
This is a festival of gentleness, welcoming back the light, and letting it support the blossoming of hope.

Monday

Hope your Monday is the start of a week filled with gentle moments. And for those of you enjoying a civic holiday (like us here), hope it's a good one.

Modernist Retreat

Love the pretty mix of old and new in the home of jewelry designer Julie Wettergren Andersen, her husband Christopher Andersen and their small son Conrad — great relaxed style. More here via Femina.

Paro
パロ
Described as the world's most therapeutic robot, Paro was developed by the The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba in the early 1990s.
The furry, white, harp seal robot reacts to being petted and was designed as a kind of animal therapy for people in hospitals and nursing homes. Paro's tactile sensors allow it to respond to touch by moving its tail and opening and closing its eyes.

Style Tips/Inspiration|Arstcrylique Mode's summer selection
A super fast sunday post.
Here looks like summer is yet gone.
It rains hard and the sky is the darkest ever.
The only thing I love to do today is to write my book.
Have a happy sunday, wherever you are!
//
Un velocissimo post domenicale.
Qui sembra che l'estate se ne sia già andata.
Piove forte ed il cielo è il più scuro ch'io abbia mai veduto.
L'unica cosa che amo fare oggi è scrivere il mio libro.
Buona domenica a tutti, ovunque vi troviate.

The Perfect Fair Dress (Minus the Fair)
I've been collecting novelty printed dresses lately and this one is a recent acquisition. I think it's the perfect dress to wear to the fair. I haven't gone yet, I don't really like going, but now I want to go just so I can wear this beauty. It also has a very comic book feel to it. True fact, I love comic books and manga. Geeky, I know...

think inside the box
As an obsessive organizer I am always on the lookout for storage containers, and recently came across these cute boxes all found on Etsy. Different sized and shaped boxes are great for all kinds of items that can easily get lost. So go get some pretty boxes that will help keep you organized and look great on display.

Rakanji Temple in Oita Prefecture
羅漢寺 中津
Rakanji Temple in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, is one of Oita's grandest temples. Rakanji Temple is a mountain temple built into the towering cliffs of Mt. Rakan. Rakanji dates from the 13th century and is famous for its several caves and its over 3,700 stone buddhas. A chairlift (or stone stairs for the hale and hearty) takes you from the entrance to the premises up to Rakanji itself, and then on to the top of the mountain for a panoramic view of the the surrounding peaks and valleys.

Happy weekend! Hope it's a good one. We're planning on doing a whole lot of nothing here — maybe an impromptu picnic on Sunday if the weather is nice. How about you?

Sea Shanty

A pair of New Yorkers have turned a Long Island fisherman's cottage into a summer home that's an ode to the life of the sea. Antique fish prints cover the walls, stuffed fish (from the coast of Florida) pop up everywhere, a collection of midcentury boat cushions add cheerful colour and vintage signage and marine equipment provide finishing touches. The furniture is also marine themed — a pair of living room chairs are from a yacht, a pretty rattan chair (still with its original seat fabric) once lived at the beach and the carpets are from a yacht club. All of it adds up to a relaxed and fun holiday home that celebrates life by the sea. More here on Elle Deco.
