境市博物館

Located in Daisen Park, in Sakai City, the Sakai City Museum has an interesting collection of items related primarily related to the following:

Emperor Nintoku Tumulus (which is across the street)

Industry and Culture in Sakai

History of Sakai

This can be combined with a visit to the tomb and a bicycle museum, which is also in the park.

The tomb is run and maintained by the Imperial Household Agency - which means you cannot go in. A peek from outside the moat is the extent of a visit.

Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum

江戸東京たてもの園

The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a part of the excellent Edo-Tokyo Museum in the Ryogoku area of Japan's capital. Like Meiji Mura in Aichi Prefecture, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a collection of historic buildings, mainly from the Tokyo area, brought to a new location for preservation.

The majority of the structures are from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) but later and earlier buildings can also be found. The preserved displays include a koban (police box), a sento (public bath), a Tokyo street car, a photo studio, an opulent residence belonging to a member of the Mitsui family and a number of thatched farmhouses.

From Musashi Koganei Station (North Exit) on the JR Chuo Line walk along Silk Road to the entrance to Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum or take a Seibu bus to Koganei-koen nishi-guchi.
Admission: 400 yen for adults
Hours: 9.30am-5.30 pm April-September; 9.30am-4.30pm, October-March

Tokyo Waterworks Historical Museum

東京都水道歴史館

The Tokyo Waterworks Historical Museum is a small, easily accessible, modern museum in Tokyo’s Bunkyo ward that presents the history of a public potable water supply in the capital.

The origins of Tokyo’s water supply go back to the year 1590 when the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu, having consolidated his authority over the nation at his stronghold in the township of Edo (now Tokyo), decreed the construction of a drinkable water supply as one of the first steps in building what became a city.

The Tokyo Waterworks Historical Museum colorfully traces this history on two spacious floors of exhibits.
